Marathon is a self-proclaimed hockey town! Whether for yourself, your spouse or your child(ren) there is a league for you!

The Community Services and Recreation Department also run Drop-In style hockey programs throughout the season, check the calendar for events.

Heroes and Hockey Classic

Heroes and hockey classic is a local born event every November hosted and run by the Marathon Old Timers. The event combines the proud history of military service in Marathon with that of Marathon's love of hockey. The event includes a ceremonial opening puck drop involving residents of Marathon who were/are members of the Canadian Military, a semi-formal themed appreciation dinner and dance, as well as a number of fund raising activities. The tournament committee's goal is two-fold. First and foremost, to honor the service of not only the men and women from our local community, but the service of Canada's military men and women while at the same time offering a fun-filled weekend of hockey and entertainment. Secondly, the tournament committee is aimed at raising monies through the tournament, which will go into the Legion Building Fund established to aid with future projects involving the maintenance, upkeep and renovation of the Marathon Legion Branch 183.
